Susan Koehler is a veteran educator, a lifetime literary enthusiast, and the author of several books for kids and teachers. Dahlia in Bloom, her first novel for young readers, was named a Best Book of 2019 by Kirkus Reviews, and Nobody Kills Uncle Buster and Gets Away With Ita fast-paced contemporary mystery, was the Florida Writers Association 2022 Children's Book of the Year. Susan's latest book, Charlie's Song, is a heartwarming sequel to Dahlia in BloomEven though she's no longer in the classroom every day, Susan still loves to work with students and teachers. Longer Bio
Susan Koehler enjoys a rich history as a teacher, reading coach, national consultant, adjunct professor, and author. She has a master's degree in reading education and is certified in early childhood, elementary, and K-12 reading. Susan has 36 years of experience teaching a variety of grade levels. She was named Leon County Teacher of the Year (Leon County, Florida) in 2004 and was the 2005 recipient of the State of Florida’s Mary Brogan Excellence in Teaching Award. She is the author of five nonfiction books for children and several teacher resources, including The Complete K-5 Writing Workshop (2010) and Crafting Expository Papers (2007), and she is the co-author of Models for Teaching Writing-craft Target Skills (2nd Edition, 2010). Dahlia in Bloom (2019), Susan’s middle grade historical fiction novel for young readers, was named a Best Book of 2019 by Kirkus Reviews. Nobody Kills Uncle Buster and Gets Away With Ita fast-paced contemporary mystery for middle grade readers, was released August 2021 and was honored by the Florida Writers Association as the 2022 Children's Book of the Year. Her latest book, Charlie's Song, is a heartwarming sequel to Dahlia in Bloom.
